Centre Region Parks and Recreation’s new Muck-n- Mess class for children age 3 to 5 will be held from 10- 11 a.m. Thursdays Sept. 20- Oct. 18 at Tudek Park, 400 Herman Drive. The cost is $40 for residents and $60 for nonresidents.

STATE COLLEGE

Interfaith Initiative of Centre County will hold its annual Interfaith Picnic from noon-4 p.m. Sept. 23 at pavilion Nos. 1 and 2 at Sunset Park, 850 McKee St. The meal will start at 1 p.m. Grilled halal chicken, soft drinks and eco-friendly plates, cups and utensils will be provided. Guests are invited to bring vegetarian, halal or kosher food, as well as favorite dishes. Those who bring food are asked to label ingredients and not include pork or alcohol.

Lessons will follow a progressive program that teaches lifelong swimming and aquatic skills. Parent/toddler, preschool and progressive levels one through six are available at the State College Area High School Natatorium, 653 Westerly Parkway.

COLLEGE TOWNSHIP

Centre Region Park and Recreation’s first annual “Scarecrow-Stuff It!” will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at Mill-brook Marsh Nature Center, 548 Puddintown Road. The staff wiill provide straw and string while participants are asked to bring the rest. Families, nonprofit organizations and local businesses are encouraged to compete in this friendly competition that includes an afternoon full of activities with face painting, relay races and more.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County invites the public to attend a “Stewards of Children” child abuse prevention training program from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the UUFCC, 780 Waupelani Drive Extension.

The program will teach adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for organizations that serve youth and for individuals concerned about the safety of children. Sign up to attend by contacting Jean Wiant at dlre@uufcc.com.
