Campus Corner: Brooker’s blazing time paces Cedarville win

Former Penns Valley runner Matt Brooker helped Cedarville win the 22nd annual Friendship Invitational cross country meet Saturday, winning the 8-kilometer race in 24 minutes, 39 seconds.

His time was the sixth-fastest recorded at the Elvin R. King course and the fastest time in the Friendship Invitational since the meet was moved to that venue. He was the fifth Cedarville runner to win the event but the first since 2003.

Brooker led a contingent of six Yellow Jacket runners to finish in the top 10 as Cedarville won the meet with 20 points. Second-place finisher Wright State had 75 points.

Football

Shane Dorner (State College, Lafayette) has two solo tackles and three assists, one sack and one tackle for loss for minus three yards. Lafayette is 2-0.

Coleman Rigg, (Bellefonte, Juniata) has caught two passes for 30 yards.

Colton Myers (State College, Juniata) has two receptions for 51 yards.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) carried once for one yard and has 10 kickoff returns for 190 yards. Juniata is 1-2.

Shay Ceglar (State College, Shippensburg) has an assisted tackle and a fumble recovery.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) has an assisted tackle. Shippensburg is 3-0.

Logan Belinda (State College, Westminster) has played in one game. Westminster is 1-1.

Colby Way (State College, Buffalo) has seven solo tackles and four assists, three sacks and four tackles for loss. Buffalo (1-1) will play Kent State Wednesday in its MAC Opener which will be televised live by ESPNU at 7 p.m.

Rob Irwin (Bellefonte, Clarion) has one reception for 25 yards. Clarion is 1-2.

Ian Smith (State College, Kutztown) has started the last two games and has 10 tackles, seven solo, and one sack. Kutztown is 1-2.

Bernard Smack (State College, Lock Haven) has four receptions for 30 yards and two punt returns for 16 yards. Lock Haven is 0-3 and has not scored a point this season.

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) has scored nine points. He is 1-for-3 in field goal attempts and has made all six PATs. Lycoming is 2-1.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) is the long snapper for the Orangemen, who are 1-2.

Mike Horton (P-O, Edinboro) is starting at left guard. Edinboro is 0-2.

Soccer

Andy Blunk (State College, Juniata) has one goal and one assist.

Anthony Glossner (Penns Valley, Juniata) has two assists and four shots on goal. Juniata is 5-2.

Sydney Masters (Bellefonte, Juniata) has one goal and one assist. Juniata is 5-0-1.

Devyn Lee (State College, Case Western) has taken two shots to date. Case Western is 3-1-2.

Ally Reid (State College, Franklin & Marshall) has played in four games to date. F&M is 0-2-2.

David Trunzo (State College, St. Francis) has taken nine shots. St. Francis is 2-2-2.

Katelyn Gill (State College, Alvernia) has taken four shots for Alvernia, which is 4-1-1.

Kelsey Gill (State College, Alvernia) has two goals to date.

Izabel Scott (State College, Slippery Rock) has started in all four games and has one goal while playing 342 minutes. Slippery Rock is 3-1.

Megan Porter (State College, Geneva) has started all five games for Geneva, which is 2-2-1.

Cory Neiderer (Penns Valley, PSU-Behrend) has played in four games to date. Behrend is 5-1.

Katie Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) has taken two shots so far. Lebanon Valley is 4-2.

Kathryn Ritter (P-O, Lancaster Bible College) has scored two goals and has two assists. Lancaster Bible is 3-3-0.

Kathleen Warner (State College, Clarion) has taken four shots so far. Clarion is 1-2-2.

Liz Ventura (Penns Valley, Clarion) has taken four shots so far.

Ella Matalavage (State College, Paul Smiths) scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime win over SUNY ESF in the annual Barkeater’s Cup. Paul Smiths is 4-0-1.

Volleyball

Lauren Hester (State College, Indiana, Pa.) has 72 kills, three assists, 23 aces, 40 digs and eight blocks. IUP is 9-1.

Elizabeth Horner (State College, Penn) has five kills, five assists, three aces, 48 digs and three blocks. Penn is 4-5.

Kayla Confer (Bald Eagle Area, Lebanon Valley) has 88 kills, two aces, 20 digs and four blocks. Lebanon Valley is 7-8.

Julia Elkin (State College, Muhlenberg) has two kills, six assists, 52 digs and nine aces. Muhlenberg is 8-3.

Alaina Del Real (State College, American U.) has one kill. American is 6-5.

Bella Stachowski (State College, Kenyon) has two kills, 17 assists, 10 aces and 135 digs. Kenyon is 2-7.

Alexandra Fleagle (State College, Slippery Rock) has eight kills, 141 passes, eight aces and 69 digs. Slippery Rock is 6-4.

Field hockey

Mikaela Sloan (State College, Juniata) has taken five shots to date. Juniata is 3-3.

Tia Dudukovich (State College, St. Francis) has scored nine points on two goals and five assists. St. Francis is 5-3.

Tori Patrick (State College, Washington & Jefferson) has two goals and an assist. W&J is off to a 2-2 start.

Brenna Boehman (State College, Haverford) has one goal to date. Haverford is 4-0.

Cross country

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) placed 21st in the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships, won by Illinois, in time of 18:26.

Jason Doll (State College, Delaware Valley) was 48th in the Cougar Classic at Misericordia with a time of 29:38.12.

Golf

Brian Charles (State College, Goshen) was second on his team with an 84 as Goshen College placed ninth in the Jon P. Speiss Memorial Tournament, hosted by Defiance College.
