Man pleads guilty to robbing teens on Centre Hall Mountain

Published: September 22, 2012

— The man charged with robbing four teenagers and threatening to kill them on Centre Hall Mountain in May pleaded guilty Friday.

Richard Martinez, 19, entered an open plea to all the counts and will avoid trial, which had been scheduled for next week.

Spring Township police said four 14-year-old boys were chased by Martinez after they came upon him during a hike May 5.

The boys told police Martinez forced them to the ground, kicked one of them in the head and went through their pockets, stealing three iPods and a bottle of water from their backpacks.

Police said Martinez allegedly held a box cutter to one boy’s throat and threatened to kill them.

Police didn’t exactly say why Martinez was on the mountain during the time he’s alleged to have attacked the boys, but police wrote in the charging documents that the area is known as a site where marijuana is grown.

Martinez is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 30.
