Scholastic digest: Lady Bulldogs shut down Blair County

BELLEFONTE — Centre County Christian Academy dominated at both ends of the field as the Lady Bulldogs soccer team blanked Blair County Christian Academy 3-0 Friday afternoon.

Becky Maholic, Alexis Rossman and Alyssa Maurer each found the net for CCCA (5-2), which held a lopsided 22-1 advantage in shots.

Mary Boggie and Rachel Campbell teamed up for the shutout, with Boggie making one save and Campbell picking up an assist when she took a position in the field in the second half.

Tyrone bests BEA

WINGATE — Carrie Vance scored a pair of goals to lead Tyrone to a 4-1 win over Bald Eagle Area on Thursday night at Alumni Stadium.

Samantha Bowman and Kristlyn Dibbert added the other Tyrone goals with Kristen Bonsell picking up an assist.

Hayley Giedroc found the net for BEA (3-3).

Lady Storm fall on road

SUNBURY — Bethany Severn scored a hat trick in the first half on Friday to lead Northumberland Christian past Grace Prep 6-1.

Northumberland keeper Riley Book held the Lady Storm (3-2) off the scoreboard until the 79th minute, when Grace Prep’s Kalky Streit scored unassisted. Book finished with eight saves.

Larissa Tricou finished with seven saves for the Lady Storm.

Storm fall on the road

SUNBURY — David Mahoney scored a hat trick in the first half to lead Northumberland Christian to a 5-1 victory over Grace Prep on Friday.

Luke Snider helped keep the Storm (0-5) from a shutout with a goal in the 66th minute on an assist from Lathom Thompson.

Jeff Lange made 11 saves for the Storm.

Rams upend Lady Little Lions

HARRISBURG — Central Dauphin won all but one singles match in a 4-1 victory over State College on Friday afternoon.

Gitanjali Bhushan was the lone winner for the Lady Little Lions (7-5), posting a decisive shutout of Lexi Owens 6-0, 6-0 at first singles.

Juliette Greer also came close to a win, falling in a tiebreaker to Lauren McNair 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.

State College hosts Carlisle on Monday.

Girls’ volleyball

Lady Rams drop Lady Eagles

SPRING MILLS — Penns Valley swept past Tyrone 25-16, 25-11, 25-21 Thursday night.

Chelsea Emel and Casey Kuhlman paced the offense for the Lady Rams (3-2) with six kills each while Tangie Lyons set them up with eight assists. Kuhlman also served up three aces, Madison Bressler posted three blocks and Ashley Struble picked up seven digs.

“The last game Tyrone rallied and served aggressively to make it a close one,” Lady Rams coach Joi McKenzie said, “but we were able to buckle down on serve-receive and defense and come out with the win.”
