On Centre: High school students get plugged in

Published: September 24, 2012

Penns Valley Area School District officials said the high school’s new computing initiative is off and running.

On Sept. 5, the district’s high school students each received a MacBook Air computer to use during the day.

District officials said the program has been running well through the first month of school, and added it could be

expanded next year to include students in seventh and eighth grades.

So far, more than 90 percent of the district’s students have also been given permission to take the computers home — something that was dependent on parents and student attending a meeting at the school.

School officials said they hope the project, funded without an increase in the district’s technology budget, will increase creativity in the classroom.

Rams on parade

Penns Valley officials are also preparing for the district’s annual homecoming parade at the Grange fairgrounds.

This year’s parade, which is Disney themed, is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday. It will be followed by a pep rally at the Grandstand at 7:30 p.m.
