Bellefonte to hire officer to crack down on speeding

BELLEFONTE — A part-time police officer will be hired to patrol the borough’s streets and enforce speed limits.

The Borough Council OK’d creating the part-time position during its meeting last week. The traffic officer will work 20 hours a week and not exceed 40 hours in a two-week period.

The position was created after concerns from residents about speeding on borough streets. Residents have spoken out about their concerns during recent Borough Council meetings.

The position will pay $16 to $18 per hour, depending on the candidate’s experience.

Bellefonte’s police force has 10 full-time officers.
