Letter to the editor | Another side of Mitt Romney

Published: September 27, 2012

We feel compelled to let the people of central Pennsylvania know the Mitt Romney we know.

Knowing him personally, and having a daughter who worked with him, we want to make sure everyone knows why we strongly support him.

Our three children graduated from Penn State, which gave them tools to succeed. Our eldest daughter, Renee, went on to earn a Harvard MBA and work in the private sector.

Romney appointed her to his cabinet as Secretary of Business and Technology. She eventually was promoted to oversee his cabinet.

Romney hired the best people for the job and had more women in senior and cabinet positions than any other governor. They worked together to grow the economy and bring jobs to Massachusetts, including Samsonite’s headquarters and Bristol Myers Squibb’s $1.2 billion new plant.

They believe that jobs are the cornerstone of our nation’s strength and vitality.

After leaving office, Renee was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. Romney was one of the first people to call and offer support and encouragement and continued to do so throughout her successful recovery.

After having her son, Renee’s brain tumor returned and was ultimately cured. Once again, Romney was there to offer Renee and our family support and encouragement. He is more than just a political candidate and someone we have seen improve the economic stature of his state. He is a man who is compassionate, supportive and a genuine person — whom we are proud to support for president.
