Giant recalls Sunland peanut butter products

Published: September 28, 2012

Giant Food Stores, following a recall by Sunland Inc., announced it removed from sale select varieties of peanut butter products due to possible salmonella contamination.

The following products, with best if used by dates between May 1, 2013, and Sept. 24, 2013, are included in this recall:

• Sunland Banana Peanut Butter Spread, UPC 04868760906, 16 oz.

• Sunland Raspberry Peanut Butter Spread, UPC 04868761906, 16 oz.

Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial food-borne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems.
