Yoga for Peace, an annual event that educates the public about yoga and gives back to the community by offering a weekend of free yoga classes while fundraising for a nonprofit organization, will be held today through Sunday at various yoga studios in the area.
This year, Yoga for Peace is fundraising for the Centre County Womens Resource Center. Last year, Yoga for Peace raised $1,450 for the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, and in 2010 it raised $1,300 for Centre County Youth Service Bureaus Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
Yoga for Peace is a celebration of the United Nations International Peace Day and the month of September declared as Yoga Month. Yoga for Peace is part of the Global Mala Project, one of many events around the world occurring simultaneously in honor of world peace. Each event represents one bead of the mala, the global mala for peace.
