Letter to the editor | Vote yes on referendum

Published: October 2, 2012

I would like to alert my fellow voters in Ferguson Township to a very important referendum question that will be on the Nov. 6 ballot. It regards amending our Home Rule Charter to include a Community Bill of Rights and fracking ban.

This would empower us to regain our sovereign right to self governance. It would guarantee us the rights to pure water and clean air and rights of natural communities to flourish and be healthy. To secure these rights, it includes a ban on nonconventional natural gas extraction, known as fracking, and bans the transportation, disposal and storage of toxic waste produced by it. A complete copy if the amendment can be found at: www.groundswell.gs .

As a member of Community Rights Activists of Ferguson Township, I helped petition to get this on the ballot. I hope those who agree that our health and the health of nature is more important than corporate profits will vote yes Nov. 6. Vote yes to protect our community. Vote yes to secure our rights to a sustainableenergy future.
