Maya Hayes scores twice as Nittany Lion soccer team drops Bison

Published: October 2, 2012

— Maya Hayes scored a pair of second-half goals to go with a score from Raquel Rodriguez as the Penn State women's soccer team took down Bucknell 3-1 Tuesday night at Jeffrey Field.

The No. 4 Nittany Lions (11-2, 5-0 Big Ten) took the early lead on a Rodriguez penalty kick conversion in the first half. The freshman took to the spot after Tani Costa was taken down in the penalty box by Bison keeper Sandita McDermott.

Hayes added her two scores after intermission while peppering the Bison net with seven shots on goal. Costa assisted on the first score in the 57th minute and Emily Hurd helped on the second goal, in the 73rd minute, which gave Hayes her second straight multi goal game and nine scores on the season while playing in just six contests.

Britt Eckerstrom made four saves in the Nittany Lion net, allowing only a Jenna Tryon goal in the second half.

Penn State will host Indiana on Sunday.
