— A Curtin Township man who hit a man with hammer, put a smoking napkin in his SUV’s gas tank opening, threatened to kill him then fired a gun at him received state prison time for the episode this spring.

Eric Yarrison, 27, was sentenced Thursday to 11/2 to three years behind bars by Judge Pamela A. Ruest plus a year of probation on counts of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor terrorist threats. Yarrison pleaded guilty in August as part of a plea deal in which prosecutors withdrew counts of arson, criminal mischief and simple assault.

The assault stemmed from a confrontation in April when Yarrison went to the residence of Justin Hinds, 34, over a disputed debt.

Yarrison tried to hit Hinds over the head with a hammer, but Hinds blocked the majority of the blow. As Yarrison went to leave, he lit a napkin on fire and put it in the opening of Hinds’ SUV’s gas tank.

Yarrison then drove up to the front of Hinds’ home and, while cursing, threatened to kill him and shot a weapon in Hinds’ direction, police said.

Yarrison has been in the county jail since this summer, when he was sentenced to at least 30 days for conspiring to steal a check from his grandmother.

His defense attorney, Steve Trialonas, asked Ruest to run the assault sentence concurrent to the forgery case, which the judge did. Ruest also gave Yarrison credit for 71 days he’s already served.

Ruest made Yarrison eligible for boot camp in the state prison system.
