Women’s volleyball: Penn State oulasts Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The top-ranked Penn State women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten in the Big Ten with a 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 18-16 victory against No. 21 Illinois on Saturday.

The Nittany Lions (16-1 overall) improved to 7-0 in Big Ten play and beat the Illini (8-8, 2-4) for the first time since 2010. Ariel Scott led Penn State with 19 kills, while Katie Slay and Deja McClendon each added 15. Micha Hancock dished out 53 assists and was second behind McClendon (15) with 13 digs. Megan Courtney and Dominique Gonzalez added 12 apiece. Slay had a team-high seven blocks.
