BURLINGTON, Vt. Vermonts offense proved too much for Penn State as the Catamounts avoided a weekend sweep with a 3-1 victory on Sunday at Gutterson Fieldhouse.. Penn State goalie Celine Whitlinger stopped 41 shots. Birdie Shaw scored in the first period to give the Nittany Lions (1-1). Klara Myren, Danielle Rancourt and Meghan Huertas scored for Vermont. Penn State returns to action at 7 p.m. Saturday against Syracuse at Greenberg Ice Pavilion. Admission to all home games is free.
