Published: October 9, 2012

Penn State freshman forward Micayla Catanzariti was named College Hockey America's Rookie of the Week on Monday. Catanzariti helped lead the Nittany Lions to a win in their inaugural opener on Saturday with two goals and an assist in a 5-3 win against Vermont.

Catanzariti scored the game-tying and the go-ahead goal on Saturday, while assisting the final goal by Birdie Shaw. Catanzariti became the first Nittany Lion to tally a multi-goal game and had three points in the victory.

Fellow forward Shannon Yoxheimer was named to the CHA's honorable mention list for the week after her two-goal performance against Vermont, which included the eventual game-winning tally. She was named the No. 2 star in Saturday's win and the No. 3 star in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Catamounts.
