Mifflin County man charged in crash that killed friend on Seven Mountains

Published: October 10, 2012

A Mifflin County man is facing charges from a crash last year that killed his friend, who had been standing on the window of the car as it hit a tree on a back road on Seven Mountains in Centre County.

Kyle Reigle, 23, of Burnham, told police he was driving “entirely too fast” around a curve on the Siglerville-Millheim Pike in Penn Township before he hit the tree, according to charging documents filed last week. The crash, which happened around 4:30 a.m. Sept. 30, 2011, killed Daniel Culver, 24, of Burnham.

Reigle’s blood-alcohol level was found to be .13 percent, police said in the charging documents.

Reigle told police he had seven beers at the Bierhaus in Lewistown, where he, Culver and two other friends met up. They left around 1:30 a.m. and went riding around in Culver’s car, a Subaru Legacy. At some point, police said, Culver gave Reigle the keys to the car.

No one was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Reigle’s license had been suspended and expired on Dec. 7, 2009.

Reigle was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Centre County court on Wednesday, but it was delayed until Nov. 7.

Reigle faces charges of accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, which is a felony; two DUI counts, and summary violations.

Reigle was released on $10,000 unsecured bail after his arraignment last week.
