Campus corner: Gill sisters combine to help Alvernia soccer team win

The Gill sisters combined to help Alvernia’s soccer team beat Widener 2-1 last week.

Kelsey Gill scored the game-tying goal off an assist by sister Katelyn. Alvernia later held off a furious attack by Widener to get the win and raise its record for the year to 7-6-2.

For the season for the State College Area High School products, Kelsey Gill has scored six goals while Katelyn has three goals and two assists.

Football

Terna Ityokumbul (State College, Bucknell) saw limited playing time Saturday against Harvard. Bucknell is 1-5.

Shane Dorner (State College, Lafayette) has seven solo and 13 assisted tackles, 4 1/2 tackles for loss for minus-12 yards, one pass breakup and one pass defended. The Leopards are 4-2.

Coleman Rigg, (Bellefonte, Juniata) has one carry for 24 yards and two receptions for 30 yards.

Colton Myers (State College, Juniata) has caught 12 passes for 123 yards. Juniata is 1-5.

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) has carried the ball six times for 10 yards, caught two passes for nine yards and returned 21 kicks for 366 yards.

Shay Ceglar (State College, Shippensburg) is the long snapper. He has one assisted tackle.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) has two solo tackles and one assist, 1 1/2 tackles for loss for minus-1 yard, one-half sack, one quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery which he returned 80 yards for a touchdown. Shippensburg is 7-0.

Logan Belinda (State College, Westminster) has one assisted tackle in three games played. Westminster is 2-3.

Colby Way (State College, Buffalo) has 19 solo tackles and 10 assists, five tackles for loss for minus-12 yards, four sacks for minus-8 yards, one pass breakup and one pass defended.

Jake Reeder (State College, Buffalo) started at tight end against Northern Illinois when the Bulls went to a two-tight end formation. He had no stats. Buffalo is now 1-5.

Rob Irwin (Bellefonte, Clarion) has four receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown. Clarion is 3-4.

Ian Smith (State College, Kutztown) has nine solo tackles and six assists, one tackle for loss for minus-1 yard, one interception returned for one yard, one pass breakup and one pass defended. Kutztown is 3-4.

Bernard Smack (State College, Lock Haven) has caught five passes for 36 yards, returned six punts for 32 yards and 25 kickoffs for 499 yards. Lock Haven is 0-7.

Zach Czap (P-O, Lycoming) has made 2 of 5 field goals and 17 of 19 PAT attempts. He averages 36.3 yards on 28 punts and has kicked off 29 times for an average of 57.3 yards per kick. Lycoming is 5-1.

Sam Rodgers (State College, Syracuse) continues to be the long snapper for the Orangemen, who are 2-4.

Mike Horton (P-O, Edinboro) starts at left guard for the Scots, who are 3-2.

Emmitt Terrel (State College, Cornell) has seven solo tackles, six assists and one pass breakup. Cornell is 3-2.

Reid Vanderlinden (State College, Johns Hopkins) has one assisted tackle for the 6-0 Blue Jays.

Jereme Murray (State College, Holy Cross) has four catches for 40 yards. Holy Cross is 1-5.

Garrett Nicholson (State College, Ithaca) leads the team in scoring with 30 points for 4 of 5 field goals and 18 of 18 PATs. Ithaca is 4-2.

Soccer

Andy Blunk (State College, Juniata) has a goal and an assist. Juniata is 8-6.

Anthony Glossner (Penns Valley, Juniata) has two assists.

Sydney Masters (Bellefonte, Juniata) has a goal and two assists. Juniata is 8-5-1.

Ally Reid (State College, Franklin & Marshall) has an assist. F&M is 2-4-4.

David Trunzo (State College, St. Francis) has an assist. St. Francis is 5-6-2.

Izabel Scott (State College, Slippery Rock) has a goal and two assists. Slippery Rock is 8-4-1.

Megan Porter (State College, Geneva) has played in 14 games, taking one shot. Geneva is 7-6-1.

Cory Neiderer (Penns Valley, PSU-Behrend) has taken one shot in seven games. PSU-Behrend is 7-6.

Katie Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) has played in 13 games and taken six shots. Lebanon Valley is 7-6.

Kathryn Ritter (P-O, Lancaster Bible College) has scored five goals and handed out three assists for 13 points. Lancaster Bible is 12-3.

Kathleen Warner (State College, Clarion) has a goal and has taken 10 shots. Clarion is 2-7-5.

Liz Ventura (Penns Valley, Clarion) has an assist to date.

Dieter Bahr (State College, Delaware) has played in one game and has no stats. Delaware is 3-8-3.

Ella Matalavage (State College, Paul Smiths) starts for a team that is 9-1-1.

Julia Elkin (State College, Muhlenberg) has four kills, 11 assists, 111 digs and 21 aces. Muhlenberg is 15-8.

Alaina Del Real (State College, American U.) has one kill to date. American is 12-8.

Chloe Schmidt (State College, Illinois) finished first among Illinois runners in the Black Race portion of the Pre-Nationals. Her time was 22:03. She was 32nd overall.
