Boys' soccer: Bellefonte edges Bald Eagle Area in overtime

BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte clinched the No. 1 seed in the District 6 Class AA playoffs and a share of the Mountain League title by defeating Bald Eagle Area 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday.

Cole Brungart scored the game-winner three minutes into the second overtime. The goal was Brungart’s first of the season.

“Bald Eagle came out strong in the first half and outplayed us,” Bellefonte coach Scott Martz said. “We did a much better job of gaining control in the second half. It was nice to see Cole Brungart score his first goal. We have won nine straight games. We were undefeated in the second cycle. We’re playing our best soccer at the right time.”

BEA’s Eric Henderson scored the game’s first goal in the 38th minute. Bellefonte’s Tyler Rhoades tied the game 14 minutes into the second half.

Bellefonte’s Shane Kaschalk and BEA’s Ben Leskovansky eached stopped 11 shots. The Red Raiders outshot the Eagles 16-12.

Bellefonte ended the regular season 13-4. The Red Raiders shared the Mountain League title with Philipsburg-Osceola.
