Boys' cross country: Mitchell Smith leads Raiders to league title

SPRING MILLS — Mitchell Smith raced to the victory to lead Bellefonte to the team title at the Mountain League Cross Country Championship at Penns Valley on Wednesday.

Bellefonte had 25 points, easily outdistancing second-place Penns Valley (64). Clearfield (75), Tyrone (88), Bald Eagle Area (137) and Philpsburg-Osceola (148) followed.

Smith covered the 3.1-mile layout in 16 minutes, 45 seconds. Penns Valley’s Michael Decker was a distant second, coming in 21 seconds back at 17:06. Bellefonte’s Andrew O’Donnell (third, 17:47), Mike Lewis (sixth, 18:16), Sean Gipson (seventh, 18:21), Garrett Pensak (eighth, 18:25) and Matt Dabiero (ninth, 18:28) also finished in the top 10.

Bald Eagle Area’s Zach Moody (17:56) placed fourth. Drew Hurd (12th, 18:57) and Kyle Houser (13th, 19:01) were the Rams’ top finishers behind Decker.
