Rams hammer Bucktail

Published: October 20, 2012

RENOVO — Penns Valley's passing game was firing on all cylinders and the Rams pulled away from Bucktail to secure a 31-12 win on Friday night.

The Rams have turned their season around after starting 0-4. Their win against Bucktail was their fourth-straight.

Penns Valley quarterback Cameron Tobias completed 10 of 18 passes for 178 yards and ran for the opening score to help lead the Rams. Andrew Deardorff added a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter to give Penns Valley a 10-0 halftime lead.

Bucktail (4-3) would battle back, however.

Quarterback Ryan Bratton hit Matt Horton for a 35-yard touchdown strike to make it a one possession game early in the second half. But Dom Hook finished off a Penns Valley drive with a one-yard touchdown run three minutes later.

Still in the third quarter, Hook added a three-yard scoring run in the third quarter to give the Rams a 17-6 lead. Cole Confer kept the points coming with a four-yard run late in the fourth. Hroton caught another touchdown pass, this one a 42-yarder from Bratton with nine seconds left to cap the scoring.

Penns Valley intercepted two of Bratton's passes and outgained Bucktail 269-182. Confer led Penns Valley with 31 yards on seven carries while Hook added 23 on 11 tries. Tobias connected with four different receivers on the night, tossing four passes to Taylor Collison for 82 yards. Luke Weaver added two catches for 46 yards while Ian Brown and Dalton Ulmanic combined for four catches and 50 yards.

After starting the season 0-4, a record that included blowout losses to Juniata and Clearfield in the first two weeks of the season, Penns Valley has beat its last four opponents by an average of over 23 points per game.

The Rams will host Tyrone (5-3) next Friday.
