Letter to the editor | Benninghoff is problematic

Published: October 26, 2012

A supporter of Rep. Kerry Benninghoff wrote in a letter Oct. 12 that “Harrisburg needs problem-solving politicians, not complainers, people who are dependable and genuinely care for the community.”

But did Benninghoff demonstrate genuine caring for our community when he led the fight in the House to take away local control of fracking (legislation now declared unconstitutional); voted with Gov. Tom Corbett to drastically cut education, costing our local schools millions of dollars and raising our property taxes; voted in favor of the now-defunct voter ID law; voted in favor of gerrymandering Pennsylvania’s electoral districts; and co-sponsored legislation requiring ultrasound exams for women who are considering terminating a pregnancy — whether they want them or not?

Is Benninghoff solving problems or creating them?

I strongly recommend that we vote for Christopher Lee to replace Kerry Benninghoff as representative of the 171st District. Lee takes the opposite positions on these issues and has demonstrated truly “dependable and genuine caring for the community” through many years of serving in volunteer management positions at the village, community and regional levels.
