Published: October 29, 2012

PARK RIDGE, Ill. — Penn State captured its first Big Ten title since 2008, and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament, as the regular season schedule closed Sunday.

The No. 5 Nittany Lions, who beat Michigan State 6-1 Saturday, wrapped up the top spot thanks to Iowa’s 3-2 victory over Northwestern on Sunday.

Penn State has a first round bye for the Big Ten Tournament. The top seeds will meet either the Hawkeyes or Spartans, who face off Thursday, in Friday’s semifinals in Iowa City, Iowa. The finals are Sunday to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
