Sandy alters local schedules

Hurricane Sandy has played havoc with the area sports schedule, which includes both high school and Penn State events.

Monday’s District 6 Class AAA volleyball semifinal between State College and Central Mountain was postponed and tentatively moved to today at 7:30 p.m. at State College. The Class AA tournament, which involves Philipsburg-Osceola and Penns Valley, is also tentatively scheduled for play today.

Several soccer playoff games scheduled for today have been moved. The Class AA boys’ semifinal clash between the Bellefonte and Bald Eagle Area has been moved to Thursday. The contest will remain at 6:30 p.m. at Central Mountain. Philipsburg-Osceola’s semifinal clash against Tyrone also has been moved to Thursday at 7 p.m. at Hollidaysburg.

The Class AA girls’ soccer championship is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Hollidaysburg and the Class AA boys’ title game will follow at 5 p.m.

The Class AAA boys’ soccer title game between State College and Hollidaysburg is still scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bald Eagle Area.

Penn State postponed its annual men’s basketball media day on Monday and it will be rescheduled at a later date. Penn State football coach Bill O'Brien's weekly news conference has been moved from today to Wednesday.

The Penn State men’s hockey game at Fredonia State today has been postponed until Dec. 11. The Nittany Lions will play host to Buffalo State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Penn State also canceled it annual wrestling media day for today. The team’s annual wrestle-offs will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rec Hall.
