State College taxi driver cited in wrong-way crash

Published: October 30, 2012

A taxi driver was cited for driving the wrong direction on a one-way downtown street, hitting a parked car and failing to report it.

State College police said Benjamin Budd, 31, of State College, was driving a vehicle owned by Golden Taxi the wrong way on South Burrowes Street on Sunday when his vehicle drifted into the parked car.

Budd was transporting customers, who got out after the impact. Witnesses said he was using a cellphone before the crash, according to police.

He later told the taxi company he was involved in a "fender bender," striking a concrete abutment, police said.

Budd, whose license was found to be expired, was cited for three summary traffic violations.
