Letter to the editor | Reality is telling

There’s a reason things are the way they are.

We live in an instant-gratification country. Whatever it is, we want it, and we want it now.

Be it instant messaging, fast food or gastric-bypass surgery to correct years of neglect to our bodies. We text instead of call because we’re eager to get our message out — without having to listen to the other person’s viewpoint.

It took several years to design, finance and build the World Trade Center; and as Sept. 11 so horrifically demonstrated, only minutes to destroy.

President George W. Bush had eight years to deregulate the banks and Wall Street; to charge, not pay for, two wars and the senior drug program; and give away the Clinton surplus, causing a financial disaster that rivaled the Great Depression.

Yet, President Barack Obama is expected to fix this widespread destruction in just four years?

A recent BBC poll of 21 countries revealed a preference for Obama over Mitt Romney — 20 of the 21 countries polled favored the president. The only country that preferred Romney was Pakistan.

Obama has a 15-point lead in his home state of Illinois. He has a 20-point lead in Massachusetts, Romney’s home state.

Gen. Colin Powell has endorsed Obama again. Donald Trump backs Romney.

There’s a reason things are the way they are.
