— Defending champion State College advanced to the championship of the District 6 Class AAA volleyball tournament with a 25-13, 25-8, 25-15 sweep of Central Mountain on Wednesday.

“I knew it was going to be an interesting game after a four-day layoff, but the girls got better as we progressed,” said Lady Little Lion coach Chad Weight.

Christine Irwin and Kyla Irwin combined for 22 kills in the win. Kyla Irwin also chipped in six blocks, while Tara Neidigh posted six digs and six aces and Suzanne Horner dished out 21 assists.

State College advanced to the state quarterfinals in pool play last season. The two schools will meet once again tonight in the finals at 7 p.m. at Tyrone.

“We always feel like we’re going to play Altoona,” Weight said.. “Our goal is always to get to the district finals and win and see where it goes from there.”
