Letter to the editor | Exercise your right

Published: November 1, 2012

This election cycle started far too early and has left us feeling as though it might never end. Campaigns at all levels have been relentless in attacking opponents. A never-ending stream of pundits has provided analysis similar to that of professional sports.

We have seen and heard endless commercials on the television and radio. The pollsters have inundated us with a steady barrage of phone calls.

It has been truly painful, but much better than any alternative.

Far from perfect, our government is the best system in the world.

The gift of our Founding Fathers was democracy. Not an aristocratic, autocratic, monarchic or oligarchic system — a representative democracy.

Apathy, not passion, is our enemy.

Next to our families and our health, our most precious gift as Americans is our right to vote. Let’s all take the time to gather enough information to make informed choices and to get to the polls to cast our votes.
