— A midmorning fire Sunday caused severe damage to a mobile home and closed state Route 144 between Bellefonte and Milesburg for about two hours.

No injuries were reported at the single-occupant mobile home on Armor Run Road in the area known as Red Roost. The resident of the home was not identified.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 a.m. By 11:30 a.m., firefighters were spreading foam inside the home to make sure the fire did not rekindle and were stretching caution tape around the blackened structure.

Bellefonte Undine Fire Company Chief Jon Hart was in charge of the on-site command center.

Bellefonte Logan Fire Company also responded. Pleasant Gap and Milesburg fire companies provided support.

“The crews knocked it right down,” Hart said at the scene. “These structures do burn fairly quickly because of the lighter-weight construction.”

He said when fire crews arrived, the Bellefonte-facing end of the mobile home “was well involved.”

The cause of the blaze had not yet determined. Hart said he was waiting for a state police fire marshal to arrive, and expected to report a cause within 48 hours.

Bellefonte Police Department also assisted at the scene.
