Letter to the editor | Restore Paterno’s reputation

Published: November 7, 2012

In response to the CDT article Monday that said Joe Paterno’s name and image are almost nonexistent in State College, I disagree.

It said demands for clothing showing Paterno have almost ceased. Many store managers decided to cease carrying such items. Despite their rush to judgment, other sites online gave us T-shirts and bumper stickers with Paterno’s face that say “We are because he was” and “Thanks, Joe.”

They continue to make these items with statements such as “We are ... still proud.” There are many of us who will not stand by while those I and many others consider cowards continue their persecution of the only man who tried to do something about Sandusky.

The ongoing hypocrisy is that the men who were in charge and did nothing seem to rate judicial consideration from the very same people who demanded Paterno be hounded to his death.

What has happened to all the voices that joined together in the ’60s and ’70s to protest injustices? Paterno deserves to have his reputation, his wins and his reputation restored.
