It is good to know that the State College Borough is cooperating with the State College Area School District in attempting to resolve the sinkhole problem at Memorial Field. As an icon of State College, Memorial Field is definitely worth saving even at some expense.
Nearly a century ago, five months after the armistice ending World War I, the school district made an agreement with the borough that the borough could continue to drain water from Foster Avenue and Allen Street into the natural depression and sinkhole. However, at that time the school district made the provision in the agreement that the permission would be withdrawn if the outlet fails to carry the water as rapidly as needed.
After 93 years, let us continue to cooperate and save the borough the cost of transporting the run-off water to the duck pond and saving beautiful Memorial Field for both State College and school district purposes.
