— He was angry about the officiating last week at Nebraska and let anybody holding a camera, digital recorder and pen relay his candid thoughts to the masses.

Following Saturday’s 45-22 victory over Indiana, a more congenial Matt McGloin walked into the postgame interview room.

But that doesn’t mean Penn State’s fifth-year senior quarterback regrets his honest of assessment of last weekend’s controversial goal-line fumble call at Nebraska.

“I don’t think I regret anything I ever say,” he said. “Nebraska is over with. We played great against Indiana and learned from our mistakes last week and it showed.”

The process of forgetting about the call — and the 32-23 loss — started when the Nittany Lions returned to practice last Monday. Coach Bill O’Brien shielded McGloin from the media last week, meaning Saturday represented the first public glimpse of how McGloin handled the ordeal.

McGloin responded with one of his best games, completing 22 of 32 passes for a career-high 395 yards. He also tossed four touchdown passes, including three to star sophomore Allen Robinson.

Quarterbacks coach Charlie Fisher said McGloin handled himself “great” throughout last week.

“That happens I guess in any locker room around the country,” Fisher said. “It was an emotional game. It was a tough loss. At the end of the day, you have to put it behind you. He practiced good all week and he’s practiced well all season for the most part because he cares and he wants to do good exciting to see.”

With one game remaining, McGloin has already captured multiple school records.

His 45 touchdown passes is a career record. Daryll Clark held the previous record of 43.

His 251 completions is a single-season school record. Anthony Morelli held the previous record of 234.

His 3,071 yards is a single-season school record. Clark held the previous record of 3,003 yards.

McGloin also passed Tony Sacca and moved into second on the school’s all-time passing chart. McGloin has 6,190 career passing yards. Zack Mills holds the record of 7,212 yards.

“I’m truly blessed to be considered amongst some of the best quarterbacks to play here and to be on the top of the list,” McGloin said. “It feels good when your hard work pays off. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my teammates and the coaching staff who has really brought me a long way. I give credit to them.”

O’Brien non-committal on his future

No matter how many games Penn State win and points his offense scores, coach Bill O’Brien can’t avoid a topic he detests addressing: His own future.

For the third time in five days O’Brien, who has been mentioned as a possible candidate for multiple expected NFL head coaching vacancies, was asked about his future. This time, the question was phrased as whether he could provide a yes or no answer to fans that he would be coaching at Penn State in 2013.

“You guys gave legs to a story last week, and there’s no story there,” O’Brien said. “I’m focused on one game at a time. I’m focused on this football team. That’s not something I didn’t think about.

"I’m the head football coach at Penn State and I’m looking forward to getting this team ready for Wisconsin.

“Why give legs to a story that’s not even there? It might be for you, but for me it’s Wisconsin, this football team and this senior class. That’s where the questions should be directed. I’m the head football coach at Penn State. I love coaching here and I can’t wait to get back to work on Monday and get ready for Wisconsin.”
