Penn State senior defensive tackle Jordan Hill and sophomore kicker Sam Ficken earned Big Ten Player of the Week awards for their performances in a 24-21 overtime victory over Wisconsin. Hill collected eight tackles, including three for losses, to earn defensive player of the week honors. His play helped the Nittany Lions hold Wisconsin to seven points in the final 46 minutes of regulation.
Ficken went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and hit a decisive 37-yarder in overtime to earn special teams player of the week honors. After a rough start, Ficken ended the season by hitting 10 straight field goals.
Hill joins linebackers Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti to become the third Nittany Lion to claim the defensive award this season. Ficken is the first Penn State player to earn the special teams award in 2012.
