— Penn State senior Matt Stankiewitch has been selected as one of six finalists for the Rimington Trophy honoring the nation’s top center.

Stankiewitch, the only returning starter on the offensive line, helped the Nittany Lions average 29.1 points per game this season. He was named a first-team all-conference selection by Big Ten coaches last week.

Alabama’s Barrett Jones, Louisville’s Mario Benavides, Notre Dame’s Braxston Cave, Clemson’s Dalton Freeman and Southern California’s Khaled Holmes are the other Rimington Trophy finalists. The award will be presented as part of ESPNU’s Red Carpet Show on Thursday night in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Penn State’s A.Q. Shipley won the honor in 2008. The award is named for former Nebraska great Dave Rimington.
