Penn State women’s hockey: Freshman Shannon Yoxheimer earns honor

— Penn State freshman forward Shannon Yoxheimer was named College Hockey America’s Rookie of the Month for her performance during November. Yoxheimer led the Nittany Lions with nine points and helped lead Penn State to a 3-4-0 record last month.

Yoxheimer was Penn State’s most powerful weapon offensively, accounting for 39 shots, four goals, five points and nine points during the varsity program’s second month. Her four goals were tied for a team-high, while her five assists and nine points were each team bests.

Yoxheimer opened the month with a three-goal, two-assist weekend at home against Sacred Heart in a pair of victories. She scored twice in a 6-0 win on Nov. 2 before a three-point night on Nov. 3 in an 8-2 voctpru . She then went on to score against defending CHA Tournament champion Robert Morris, capping a seven-game goal-scoring streak.

The left winger leads the team in goals (10), points (18) and is tied for second on the team in assists (8), while leading the conference in shots (89). Yoxheimer is also second on the team with a plus-four rating and has tallied a team-best two game-winning goals this season. In 16 games, Yoxheimer has tallied at least a point in 11 contests.
