— Penn State senior defensive end Pete Massaro and junior guard John Urschel have been selected as first-team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.

Massaro graduated last December with a 3.85 GPA in finance. He will earn a second degree in economics later this month. Massaro also made the first team in 2010.

Urschel graduated last May with a 4.0 GPA in math. He's scheduled to earn a master's degree next spring.

Both players made major contributions to Penn State's 2012 season. Massaro endured multiple injuries to remain in the defensive line rotation. Urschel was a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches.

Penn State joins Notre Dame as one of two schools with two first-team academic All-Americans. Penn State has produced at least one academic All-American in nine of the last 11 seasons.
