The skinny: Coach Herto is hoping the second year of rebuilding the Lady Red Raider program goes better than the first, after sending out 14 different starting lineups over last season’s 22 games. … The Lady Raiders bring back nearly the entire roster from last season, with only one senior last year. … Team has had rocky start, with three likely starters lost to injury before the season begins, including one who may miss all of December, leaving the team sorely lacking depth. … Team will seek to boost offensive production after averaging only 28.9 points per game. … Top two scorers return in guards Torrie Sealy (5.3 ppg) and Sara Caldana (4.7 ppg). Sealy is this year’s lone senior. … Other key players include point guard Alexis Franks, guard Jess Book, guard/forward Lexi Wetzler, post players Cassandra Book, Lydia Musser, Ally Steen and Marissa Moriarta. … Goal is to get the program back over .500 for the season. … The season opens Tuesday at Tyrone.

Coach Herto says: “I’ve never had two classes in a row that had just one kid graduating. We’ve just been so young. Last year we took a lot of licks, and this year we’re hoping to give as many as we take. We need to get to a level to compete as soon as possible, then we have a chance.”
