Driver to be cited in crash that closed Route 322 Monday

December 11, 2012

The driver of a tractor-trailer that crashed Monday into the Branch Road overpass and closed a section of U.S. Route 322 will be cited for driving at an unsafe speed, police said in an accident report.

State College police said Randall Silk, 56, suffered moderate injuries in the crash, including lacerations to his face and head. He was pulled from the vehicle by firefighters and taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the truck, owned by Special Service Transpiration Inc., of Brunswick, Ohio, went off the roadway and struck a bridge abutment on the overpass around 3 p.m. just outside of Lemont.

Silk told officers he was driving at about 55 mph when he felt the truck begin to hydroplane, according to police. The speed limit on the stretch of road is 55 mph. Police noted rain played a role in the crash.
