— The home of the old Cinema 6 theater might not be vacant for much longer.

Two new tenants may be moving into the plaza taking up the spot that has been vacant since August 2011, Friedman Real Estate Group CEO Ed Friedman said. His organization controls the property.

Friedman could not release the identity of the businesses but said one is retail and the other is in the food service industry. The deals could become official with names released in the next month.

The plaza is in the middle of a more than $1 million renovation to spruce up the facade and make room for the new tenants, in addition to the already-completed parking lot construction.

He said the plaza was in need of an upgrade, and the construction was not just done because of the new arrivals.

But Friedman is happy there will be someone to fill the space.

“The market has still not fully recovered,” he said. “Retailers are very selective where they go, but State College continues to be a very popular place for retailers.”
