Penn State hockey: Lions snap skid with shutout

— Freshman goaltender Matthew Skoff earned his first career shutout with 18 saves and four different Penn State players scored as the Nittany Lions snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over Fredonia State.

Jacob Friedman had a goal and an assist for Penn State (7-7-0). Connor Varley, Casey Bailey and Curtis Loik also scored, while David Glen had two assists.

Penn State outshot the Blue Devils by a 50-18 margin and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Fredonia State finished 0-for-5 on the power play. Blue Jacket goalie Mark Friesen had 46 shots.

Varley scored with 2:05 left in the first period on as assist from Joseph Lordor, rifling a shot that deflected off a Blue Devil defenseman and into the f net.

Bailey scored his sixth goal of the season on a rebound with just five seconds left in the second period. Friedman scored early in the third period and Loik added an empty-netter with 32 seconds left.

Penn State returns to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. clash against Robert Morris at the Greenberg Pavilion.
