BELLEFONTE — Playing for the fifth time in eight days, Penns Valley scrapped out a 44-35 victory over Bellefonte on Friday.
“It definitely wasn’t a pretty game,” said Penns Valley coach Andrea Borland. “We worked hard and fought to pull it out in the end.”
Bellefonte missed 18 of 31 free throws in the contest and was plagued by foul trouble. “Our first rule on defense is don’t foul,” Lady Red Raider coach Roger Herto said. “We had three girls foul out. ... You can’t miss 18 free throws and win.”
Ashley Struble, Cheyenne Swartz and Chelsea Emel led the Lady Rams (4-1) with eight points each. Courtney Ironside added 10 rebounds, while Karli Ripka had three steals and four assists.
Alexis Franks and Torrie Sealy had 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Lady Raiders (0-2).
