High school basketball: Penns Valley boys hang on to beat Central

From CDT staff reportsDecember 17, 2012

— Penns Valley scored 20 points in the second quarter as it improved to 4-1 with a 54-50 victory over Central in boys’ basketball action Monday night.

After scoring just four points and going 2-for-10 from the field in the first quarter, the Rams shot 7-for-12 in the second quarter and led 24-22 at halftime. The Rams then outscored the Scarlet Dragons 18-12 in the third quarter.

Luke Weaver hit three 3-pointers to lead Penns Valley with 17 points. Cameron Tobias and Logan Johnson both added 11 points.

Austin Cunningham led Central (4-2) with 11 points.

The Rams were playing in Central’s gym for the third time in less than two weeks. Penns Valley opened the season at Central’s tip-off tournament earlier this month.

“It’s a big win on the road at Central,” Penns Valley coach Terry Glunt said. “It’s almost like our home court. We have played three games here and only one at the Ram Dome. We felt comfortable in that regard. The kids played hard and with a lot of passion. They made some big plays, took care of the basketball and made some big free throws down the stretch.”
