High school basketball: Bellefonte boys hang on for first victory, top Philipsburg-Osceola

Published: December 18, 2012

— Bellefonte held off Philipsburg-Osceola’s last-minute comeback attempts to earn its first boys’ basketball win of the season 66-63 Tuesday night.

The Red Raiders held a six-point lead, but a few missed free throws opened the door, and missing the front end of a one-and-bonus opportunity with 4.8 seconds left set up a final attempt for the Mounties, but Taylor Golemboski’s 3-pointer from the corner, with a hand in his face, was off the mark to close the night.

Evan Wian’s 22 points paced Bellefonte (1-3).

“He was all over the place tonight,” Raider coach Darin Hazel said. “He had a big game for us.”

Dylan Moerschbacher added 15 points, Kahsim Buey had 11 points and six steals and Andy Stover collected six assists.

Eric Nartatez’s 26 points led P-O (0-4) while Matt Carpin added 17 points and five steals, Alex Gray netted 10 points and Golemboski finished with nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
