Penn State football: McGloin, Zordich to play in all-star games

— Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin and running back Michael Zordich have accepted invitations to play in all-star contests, the university announced Friday.

McGloin has been invited to play in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Challenge at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Allen, Texas. The game will be shown on Fox Sports Southwest.

Zordich will play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. ESPN2 will televise the contest.

Previously, defensive tackle Jordan Hill accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl.

McGloin is the recipient of the Burlsworth Trophy, presented to the nation’s top player who began his career as a walk-on. He led the Big Ten in passing yards (272.2 per game), completions (270) and touchdown passes (24) and had the fewest interceptions among Big Ten starting signal-callers.

Zordich started five games and also played on special teams, where he recorded four tackles. He was second on the team with 308 yards on 80 carries and had four rushing touchdowns. Zordich caught 15 passes for 152 yards.

The Nittany Lions were 8-4 under first-year head coach Bill O’Brien, the ESPN and Maxwell Football Club Coach of the Year.
