MANHEIM — Bald Eagle Areas Jake Taylor is approaching his third Manheim Tournament title.
The senior advanced to todays 182-pound final with three convincing victories Thursday. After pinning Manheim Centrals Brock Fittery and Council Rock Norths Matt ONeill in the first two rounds, Taylor majored Reynolds Jamar Henry 19-7 in the semifinals.
Taylor will meet Eastons Tyler Greene in the finals. Both wrestlers are returning PIAA Class AAA medalists, with Taylor placing third at 170 and Greene finishing seventh at 182 in the state tournament.
Taylor will have company in the Manheim finals as senior Nate Sharkey went 2-0 at 220 pounds. Sharkey defeated Lower Dauphins David Wuestner 6-3 in the semifinals. Sharkey meets Reynolds Logan Rickert in the finals.
Taylor and Sharkey were two of BEAs three semifinalists. Aaron Varner fell to North Alleghenys Alex DiCiantis 7-3 at 195.
Travis Giedroc (113), Jacob Noll (120), Clint McCaslin (132), Joe Powers (145), Ben Verbitskey (170) and Varner remain alive in consolation brackets.
BEA enters today eighth in the team standings with 65 points. Defending champion Easton holds a 171-138 lead over North Allegheny.
Wrestling resumes at 10 a.m. The finals are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
