CANONSBURG — Bellefonte heavyweight Garrett Poorman went 3-0 on Friday to reach the semifinals of the 44-team Powerade Tournament at Canon-McMillan High School.
Poorman secured a spot in Saturdays semifinals with a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Pittsburgh Central Catholic's Zach DeLuca. Poorman will meet Blair Academy star Brooks Black, the nations top-ranked high school heavyweight, according to InterMat.
Bellefonte senior Nick Shawley fell to Blair Academys Addison Knepshield 10-2 in the 182-pound quarterfinals. The third-seeded Shawley went 2-1 on the tournaments opening day.
Poorman and Shawley are the only Red Raiders remaining in the tournament. Nate Rosenberger earned three wins at 126 pounds while fellow sophomore Luke Leathers went 2-2 at 106.
