NEWPORT — Six finalists helped Penns Valley place third at Saturdays Newport Tournament
Sophomore Michael Rogers and senior Maverick Swartz won titles for the Rams. Rogers went 3-0 and pinned Warrior Runs Garrett Moser in 2:46 in the 182-pound final. Swartz went 3-0 and edged Warrior Runs Hunter Stroup 5-4 in the 195-pound final.
Isacc Bierly, Seth Decker, Cole Confer and Corey Hazel also reached the finals. Bierly fell to Warrior Runs Zackery LeBarron 6-1 at 106, Williamsons Billy Barnes dropped Decker 12-6 at 145, Halifaxs Robbie Mortez handled Confer 8-1 at 152 and Camp Hills Quinn Frassetta edged Hazel 8-6 at 160.
Curtis Decker (113), Matt Hosterman (132) and Andrew Hurd (170) added third-place finishes.
Warrior Run won the team title 190.5-179 over fellow District 4 school Williamson. Penns Valley scored 155 points.
