Penn State wrestling: Altons return to mats for Lions

Published: January 6, 2013

— After having to sit out this past week’s Southern Scuffle tournament in Chattanooga for disciplinary reasons, Andrew and Dylan Alton returned to wrestling mats for Penn State on Saturday.

Both Altons won titles at their respective weight classes and joined three other Nittany Lions in action at the Franklin and Marshall Open.

Andrew Alton, ranked No. 5 at 149 pounds, pinned three opponents, earned a technical fall over another and majored one more to win the 149-pound championship. No. 5 157-pounder Dylan Alton also went 5-0 with three wins coming by fall and another by major decision.

True freshman Wes Phipps lost in the 184-pound quarterfinals but battled back to secure a fourth-place finish. Redshirt freshman Rex Lutz went 3-2 to finish eighth at 165 pounds. Junior Andrew Church went 2-2 at 174.
