Penn State men’s hockey: UConn overcomes fast start by Lions

Published: January 6, 2013

— Casey Bailey scored the fastest goal in Penn State’s short program history, but the Nittany Lions did not find the net again in a 4-1 loss to Connecticut on Saturday night.

Bailey lit the lamp just 13 seconds into the game, taking assists from Max Gardiner, who won the opening faceoff, and Taylor Holstrom for his ninth score of the season.

P.J. Musico made 22 saves in the loss, as the Nittany Lions (8-11) outshot the Huskies 43-26 and finished 0-for-5 on the power play.

UConn netminder Garrett Bartus made 42 saves after giving up the initial goal.

The Huskies (7-8-2) scored just 1:09 after Bailey’s goal, with Shawn Pauly converting, and also got scores from Sean Ambrosie, Cody Sharib and Trevor Gerling to complete the sweep of the two-game series.

The Nittany Lions are back home next weekend, hosting the U.S. under-18 national team on Friday and Saturday nights at the Greenberg Ice Pavilion.
