DENVER — The Penn State womens gymnastics team finished second at a tri-meet with Denver and Lindenwood to open its season Saturday night.
The Nittany Lions finished with a 193.725 team total to trail Denvers 194.650, while Lindenwood had a 184.150 in its first collegiate meet in program history.
Sharaya Musser grabbed the all-around title with her 39.300 total, while Lexi Carroll was third at 38.525 and freshman Samantha Musto was fourth in her collegiate debut at 38.350.
The Nittany Lions swept the top three spots in the vault, led by a 9.900 from Madison Merriam, followed by Alexis Carroll (9.875) and Musser (9.875). Musser then tied for the top score in the floor exercise at 9.825, tied for fourth to be Penn States top performer on the balance beam at 9.725, and tied Musto for second in the uneven bars at 9.875.
The Nittany Lions next compete Saturday at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
