Boys' basketball: Bald Eagle Area stays unbeaten

From CDT staff reportsJanuary 8, 2013

— Bald Eagle Area coach Bill Butterworth was a little worried about how his unbeaten club would react to a 10-day layoff.

The Eagles let him know in a hurry.

BEA raced to an 18-7 lead after one quarter and rolled to its ninth consecutive victory with a 68-52 triumph against DuBois on Monday.

Several steals by Bryce Greene and Bryan Greene fueled the hot first quarter.

“We played good, solid man-to-man defense,” Butterworth said of the period. “We got a lot of turnovers and transition off of our defense. Most of our baskets were layups. It was a great start after a 10-day layoff. It was a sigh of relief to see us get off to a good start.”

The Eagles led 37-18 at the break. DuBois (4-5) closed to within 10 in the second half, but the Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter by making free throws.

Bryan Greene scored 16 points and Bryce Greene added 15 to lead a balanced attack. Dennis Fisher netted 14points, while Ryan Dyke and Brandon Gettig added eight and seven, respectively.

Beau Shepherd had 12 points and Hunter Lydick had 11 for the Beavers.

BEA plays host to Penns Valley (7-1) tonight.
